It is a nice tradition at Dutch universities to provide a sheet with Stellingen together with the manuscript of the Ph.D. The candidate can be questioned (and has to answer) about each point in the Stellingen during the defense.Below you can find my 15 Stellingen, which I was ready to defend on June 28th, 2010, in the Academiegebouw, Rijks Universiteit Groningen

Stellingen for my thesis The effect of aging on composite-to-composite repair strength.

Degradation of composite resin in vitro depends on the aging model applied (My Thesis)
Aging of composite resin is never influenced by a single factor (My Thesis)
In situ studies can act as a bridge between laboratory experiments and clinical trials (My thesis).
Exposure to biofilm in vitro yields degradation of composite resins that resembles in vivo degradation most. (My thesis)

Stem Cell derived from pulp cells

Berawal dari perbincangan dengan seorang teman mengenai Parkinson dissease, saya jadi teringat pembicaraan april lalu dengan supervisor saya mengenai penemuan bahwa syaraf gigi (tooth pulp) diduga merupakan sumber yang bagus untuk stem cell.
Dari penemuan itu, Journal of Endodontic impact factornya meningkat pesat, jadi tertinggi diantara jurnal2 kedokteran gigi.

Seandainya penelitian awal ini terbukti, jelas akan mempermudah kita semua untuk mempunyai “persedian” sumber sel, karena :

Tidak perlu mengusahakan kehamilan atau mempunyai anak terlebih dahulu untuk mendapatkan stem cell, karena selama ini yang terbukti potent adalah tali pusat bayi.
Kita punya banyak gigi, ambil saja yang tidak berfungsi yaitu wisdom teeth kita. Lalu simpan stem cell nya di tissue bank. Wisdom teeth untuk manusia modern yang sudah berevolusi terbukti lebih banyak menimbulkan masalah, dengan posisinya yang miring atau tidak tumbuh.
Di British Medical Journal, disebutkan bahwa 12-20 cells di gigi susu adalah stem cell, yang lebih potent dari gigi permanen.

Restorasi yang tidak tepat mengganggu kecantikan

Ketika seseorang tertawa, berbicara, gigi pasti menjadi satu bagian yang terintegrasi dengan seluruh unsur penyusun wajah yang akan menciptakan keindahan pada wajah seseorang.

Suatu ketika saya melihat salah satu majalah yang disebuah lembarannya mempromosikan majalah PESONA, suatu majalah gaya hidup bagi perempuan berumur 35 tahun keatas. Model berwajah cantik, dengan usia sekitar 40 tahun. Pakaian dan make up-nya simple, tidak berlebihan namun tetap eye catching.
